Dish Network Satellite Receivers Have Features Even Technophobes Can Appreciate

from: Technophobia is actually a lot more common than many people think. Anyone who's intimidated by technology, even it the technology in question isn't actually new, can be considered a technophobe. What many people don't realize is that it's impossible not to use some kind of technology or another just in day to day life- it's part of the human condition. Once you realize that and start thinking about all of the technologies that you're perfectly comfortable with using, any technophobia that you have gets put into perspective. In fact, if you watch TV at all, you're using a form of technology. Therefore moving up to another form of technology, like satellite TV from Dish Network, isn't really that big of a step. It just means adding a few more tools onto your home entertainment system and learning how to use the. These tools are actually pretty easy to understand and will make your television experience more intuitive and therefore even more enjoyable in the long run. Here is a run down of tools and features available on many of Dish Network's satellite receiver boxes.

The tool that you're most likely to use the most is the Dish Interactive Electronic Program Guide, which is also known as the EPG for short. The Electronic Program Guide is the central piece of computer software for your Dish Network television experience, but don't worry, it's actually designed to be user friendly and make watching TV even more enjoyable. The EPG appears on your TV's screen in the form of an interactive television listing table when you press the button marked "Guide" on your remote control. Once it appears on the screen, you can scroll through all of the listings for all of the TV shows available to you to watch. You can read about each show or movie and go directly to the channel that it's on simply by highlighting that channel and pressing the button labeled "Select" on your remote control. On some of Dish Network's receivers, you can even see what will be on TV up to nine days in advance!

Another major tool available from Dish Network is your remote control. All of Dish Network's remote controls provide full access to all of the software in ways similar to what's been mentioned above. All of the remote controls that come with Dish Network's satellite receivers can also be programmed to control your TV, your VCR, and your DVD player.

One tool offered by Dish Network and is built into many satellite receivers is the Digital Video Recorder, also known as the DVR, and it will make your VCR obsolete. At least when it comes to recording TV shows and movies. In fact, the Digital Video Recorder is definitely a reason not to be afraid of newer technologies because it's so much easier to use than the VCR. The Digital Video Recorder eliminates the need for video tapes by recording all of the programming onto a built in hard disk. Depending on which model you have, you'll be able to record anywhere from thirty all the way up to two hundred hours of programming. The DVR is also much easier to program than the VCR ever was because you'll have the intuitive and easy to use help of the Electronic program guide to do it.

These are just a few of the many reasons not to be afraid of the technology included on Dish Network equipment.
