DirecTV Versus Dish Network - Who Comes out On Top?
By Tim Gorman
If you're in the market for satellite television, there's two main companies to choose from - DirecTV and Dish Network. Comparing the two is a little like comparing apples and oranges, because their program offerings are different. So in the end it's going to come down to your own viewing preferences. If you know what programs you're likely to watch, you can work out which package offers that, and then compare those packages. For example, are you a sports buff? Or are premium movies more your cup of tea? Do you just want digital quality viewing, or do you prefer the top of the range high definition technology that's now available?
Having said that, both DirecTV and Dish Network offer a number of similar features. Certainly, if you're going to contrast satellite television with cable, there's no doubt that both services will come out ahead. Choosing satellite television will mean you no longer have to pay monthly cable bills that seem to keep going up. Digital programming doesn't cost you any extra, and you have hundreds of channels to choose from right from day one.
If there's one word that's been buzzing in the world of satellite television lately, it's Tivo. It's certainly made a lot of people take a closer look at the Dish Network and what they offer. Basically, Tivo is a DVR, or digital video recording feature that's offered by Dish Network. When you combine high definition television (HDTV) with DVR, you get unbelievable results. The picture quality is so clear that you can see every drop of sweat on an actor's face, the individual blades of grass on a sports field, or every twinkle of sunshine on the waves in your favorite fishing program. As if that's not enough, you can also record, replay and splice various scenes together, as many ways as you can think of, as often as you like. Combining HDTV and DVR gives you complete control over your viewing experience.
DirecTV, though, has plenty of great things to offer too. It has put a lot of emphasis on providing HD programming. You can watching a lot of favorite channels in HD, including ESPN, Bravo, Discovery, premium movie channels, sports, and pay per view, just to name a few.
If you're into sports, you can get some awesome sports action through DirecTV's SPORTS Pack and NFL Sunday ticket. You can watch any rostered NFL games, and flip through them until you find one that's exciting to watching. There's more than just NFL, though, so if you prefer a less prominent sport like volleyball or hockey, you can watch those as well. DirecTV certainly caters for sports fans!
